After the Eaton Fire, my mother discovered a series of paintings in the attic of the home she owned in Altadena. There was no note, no description, no emblem. The only thing we had to indicate who created the paintings was the name “Melvin Peebles.”

In an attempt to understand the mysterious artistic hero, I produced a piece about Peebles and his place in a thriving community of independent artists.
